Qur'an Tafsir (A1): Sura Kahf

Sūra Kahf is a Meccan sura which gets its name from the Sleepers of the Cave, whose story takes a prominent place in the sura (v9–26). This sura also deals with other stories such as Moses’ meeting with an unidentified figure (v60–82), the story of Dhu ’l-Qarnayn (v83–99) and the the parable of the luscious gardens (v32-44). The sura opens and closes with references to the Qur'an itself.

Aqida (A1): The Essentials of Creedal Theology

This year course in ‘Aqīdah (theology) starts with an introduction to ‘first principles’; these are the epistemic principles that inform various Islamic disciplines. In ‘Aqīdah they distinguish what must be considered a necessary point of creed from an optional one; and in law they help distinguish the lawful from the unlawful.The particulars of Aqīdah will be studied by drawing on both the theological and spiritual traditions of Islam for each complements the other. The discipline of ‘Aqīdah  provides theological frame works on how to think about God, His attributes and other related matters.

Hanafi Fiqh (A1): Sections on Worship

In this course we will cover the five chapters relating to Worship. The work is authored by Abu'l-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn la'far ibn Hamdan al-Quduri al-Baghdadi, the Hanafi jurist, born 362 A.Ascent to Felicity (Maraqi ‘l-Sa’adat) by Abu ‘l-Ikhlas al-Shurunbulali (Author), Faraz A. Khan (Translator). Students are encouraged to purchase this text.Written by the eminent 11th century Hanafi scholar, Abu ’l-Ikhlas al-Shurunbulali, Ascent to Felicity is a concise yet comprehensive primer in creed and jurisprudence. It spans all five pillars of Islam and during the course Mufti Muhammad will cover the salient points in the chapters of Purification and Prayer.

Dr Akram Nadwi will guide us through the main themes and concepts contained in this Meccan Sura, and the lessons that we can learn from it.

This course is an exposition of The Book of Assistance, a classic text that serves as a practical guide for spiritual self-improvement. The author summarises the various stages and milestones of the spiritual path into 32 short chapters, covering topics including good character, love of God and more.

Ghazali: The Book of Remembrance (Dhikr) (G1/A1)

Shaykh Babikir will cover the chapter on Remembrance (Dhikr) in Ghazali’s ‘The Forty Principles of the Religion’ ‘The Forty Principles of the Religion’ (al-Arbaʿīn fī Uṣūl al-Dīn). This book is a summary of perhaps his most famous work, the Ihya Ulum al-Din.
